One of the few good things I know of to come out of New Jersey (the others being my roommate and a few friends), Thing-One crank out fun, dancey rock, with really catchy and creative, if at times bizarre, lyrics. A couple of their songs have been in heavy rotation for me lately. 'Move It' is, as the title suggests, intended to get people shaking on the dancefloor, and it does its job. My favorite track, though, is 'Mop Yards.' The drumming, the synths, the vocal harmonies, THE CHORUS! So f-ing good. You can pick up their EP 'You'll Be Fine' on iTunes, and believe me, it's worth it. Plus, the cover art is super sweet.

On the more electronic side of things, while it's a little heavier than I often like, I've been digging the remix by Japanese producer Hoshina Anniversary of The Kills. He definitely kicks the song into high drum-and-bass gear. I think my brother would disagree with The Kills, though, that you can't just live on ice cream.

I had never heard of Glaswegian sextet The Phantom Band before getting their tracks sent to me, but I really like the dark, brooding, and wandering sound of their tunes. Fans of their citymates Glasvegas will get into the song 'Left Hand Wave' for sure. Check these dudes out. You've got to love a band whose member says "The Phantom Band are the most self-destructive, directionless, negative collection of argumentative individuals I know, who go out of their way to mess up anything that might be working in their favour. As Walt Disney once said, 'we have met the enemy and he is us.'" concurs Andy. Their debut album, 'Checkmate Savage' is out now on Chemikal Underground Records.

Coming from the ever-awesome Valerie collective, Pegase has just begun putting out his own tracks, in addition to his work with Minitel Rose. The songs feel a bit different from the rest of Valerie's retro sound, but in a very good change-of-pace-way. His track 'Dream Awake' has beautiful synth and vox and a nice quick beat to get feet moving. I'll definitely be looking forward to all his future releases. Maybe it's just the word dream in the title, but it reminds me a lot of one of the best singles of last year, Empire of the Sun's 'Walking on a Dream.' If that's not a favorable comparison, I don't know what is. Oh wait, Pegase has actually amazingly remixed 'Walking on a Dream,' too!

And now for a couple videos.
Filthy Dukes are filthy good producers/DJs/a band based in London, who've been knocking it out of the park with their originals and remixes lately. Their debut album, 'Nonsense in the Dark' will be out on March 16. In the meantime, enjoy the creepy and tantalizing video for their song 'This Rhythm.'
And finally, a video that I can't believe hasn't yet been addressed by Hipster Runoff, since it contains so many of Carles' favorite things: masked DJs, Steve Aoki, vodka being poured into fans mouths, party pic photographers, Uffie, and the list goes on... Watch and enjoy as The Bloody Beetroots unleash destruction with 'Cornelius.'
