One of the highlights of the weekend was definitely Friday night. After a wine and cheese tasting here in New Haven (I keep it classy...sometimes), I hopped on a train into New York with three friends. My bottle of Belgian beer that I'd brought turned out to have a cork, so I instead turned to my friend Rachelle's stash of brandy. I love that you're able to freely drink on Metro North trains. A little slice of Europe here in the Northeast. And it definitely makes the train ride go faster. Once in the City, we went to our friend Saad's apartment (where I was finally able to open my beer) and then I convinced everyone to come along with me and we headed downtown to Fontana's on the Lower East Side to see my friend Thomas's show for his electro duo Meat Children. It took a little while for them to go on, which meant we got to hang out and drink $3 Rolling Rock cans and the weird "sparkling vodka" who was sponsoring the show.
Here's a photo of one of their past shows from Resident Advisor. You can see the whole album here.

Once the show started, it was a hell of a lot of fun, with Tom, a.k.a. Bartlebeats, and his co-conspirator Jake, a.k.a. Mr. Good Gnar, dropping beats and dancing around on stage. It was definitely a wild time, with a whole lot of dancing, and also Rachelle and myself playing a drum that happened to be on the stage. Once the show ended, a new DJ came on, and we kept dancing, until eventually heading upstairs and heading out (after one of my friends fell asleep on a couch and the bouncer demanded she leave). Really glad I went in, especially since I haven't seen any of my high school friends play a show in four years.
Time to kick off another week and keep on rocking away the end of college (though maybe with a little more work this week). I've got a presentation to give on Tuesday on a lot of my research from the past two years, so there will be a lot of prep for that, plus tomorrow night is my team's biggest hockey game of the season, playing the only other undefeated team, so hopefully we come out on top (and I can resist the urge to celebrate and do reading instead afterwards). I've been getting lots of good stuff in my inbox, so hopefully I'll get a chance to post some of it here this week. Peace and love.
The songs are low qual MySpace rips, but they'll give you an idea of Meat Children's sound and mad skillzzz. Hopefully the boys will throw together an EP or something soon.
