Learning The Ropes

New York-based band The Ropes don't pull any punches. From the opening lines of 'I Don't Like to Get Dirty,' we learn that "You can all go fuck yourselves/You can all go burn in hell," which is not the best way to get someone to continue listening, but then, like the slogan for Sour Patch Kids (nasty stuff), we find out that first The Ropes are sour, then they're sweet: "If there's anything you need at all I would help you out." Composed of vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and multi-instrumentalist Toppy, the band has a very diverse sound, shifting easily between rock, pop, and more electronic sounds. You can pick up their album 'What They Do For Fun' on Amazon and they've also just put out a new EP for their song 'Be My Gun,' which is my favorite track.
